XYLOPHONE BARS ca. 1950's-60s made by legendary SoCal bar tuner Del Roper, acquired by Ed Mann 1977. |
| Here is an odd set of bars for the right manufacturer or project hobbyist. It is ~almost` a complete 3.5 octave, F to C xylophone, missing the low F#, the Middle B and the high C. It appears to be Rosewood that is varnished blackish with lighter redish highlites showing thru. The middle F# and G# are from a Leedy or Deagan Xylophone, as can be seen in the closeup photo (below); these (2) bars absolutely look like Honduras Rosewood. This set also includes and extra (5) bars - as seen in the 2nd closeup (below). These bars are tuned (A#), (B) X 3, and D. These (3) B's are the same pitch as the missing B in the main set! HOWEVER they are slightly short to fill the missing position. The D is played-in (would need to be sanded and smoothed). Most of the 5-bars look like Honduras Rosewood. I am not sure about the main set, could be Brazilian or Honduras or even some other wood? don't know. ALL The bars sound great! The bars are exactly the way I received them in 1977, they have been in a box for decades, I never used them. I will leave cleaning to a pro. DIMENSIONS - lowest bar 16" long X 1.5 inches wide, smallest bar 4 5/8" long X 1.5" |
